Itazura Na Kiss – Love in Tokyo

This dorama from 2013 is a remake of the 1996 dorama with the same title, adapted from a manga (comic) of the same title. The story is different, though.. only the characters are the same. The 1996 dorama only consists of 6 episodes (now that I remember, maybe that’s why I liked it), while the new one consists of 16 long episodes (55 minutes each). It’s quite funny seeing the casts from the old version appearing as cameos in the new one.

This dorama started with a scene where Aihara Kotoko (Miki Honoka) gave a love letter to Irie Naoki (Furukawa Yuki) at the school gate and was rejected for that. The next day, she and her father, Aihara Shigeki (Tanaka Yoji), with the help of her classmates Ikezawa Kinnosuke (Yamada Yuki) who likes her a lot since first year of high school, Komori Jinko (Fujimoto Nanami), and Ishikawa Satomi (Yamaya Kasumi), were moving their stuff to their new house, when suddenly a tiny meteorite hit the house and crashed it down, left them homeless and pennyless. After seeing the news, Aihara-san’s best friend since kindergarten, Irie Shigeo and his wife, Irie Noriko, who have been a rich family, called them to stay with the Irie family for a while. Apparently, her father’s best friend is Naoki’s father, so Kotoko was going to live in the same house with Naoki.

One incident leading to another, Kotoko kept fighting to get Naoki’s heart, yet never got positive response. At the end of their third year in Irie’s house, Irie-san (Naoki’s father) was found to have heart problem due to his company’s economy problem. Having finally found what he wanted in life, Naoki had to put away his dreams and took over his father’s company until he’s recovered. In order to help with the company’s fund, he even dated and willed to get engaged to another giant company’s granddaughter, leaving Kotoko heartbroken. Just like any other dorama, in the end Naoki realized his feelings for Kotoko and broke up with the other girl. Happy ending. πŸ™‚

This dorama was nice to watch at first, but when I got to the middle, it got boring. (I don’t like this Naoki. :P) Overall, I give 3 out of 5 stars for this dorama. Not as good as any other Japanese dorama that I’ve watched before, but still at the same level as Korean drama.
